Drug name: Generic Microzide (hydrochlorothiazid)
Therapeutic effects: The drug is a thiazide diuretic of moderate power. The drug works by decreasing reabsorption of Na+ in the Henle loop, however not affecting the part of it which is located in the medullary substance of the kidneys, which determines the moderate diuretic effect of the drug, when compared to furosemide. The diuretic effect of the drug is developed within 1 to 2 hours and reaches a maximum in 4 hours. The effect lasts from 10 to 12 hours. The drug decreases blood pressure due decrease of overall blood volume, decrease of vessel wall constriction and etc.
Indications: The drug is administered in the following conditions:
- Arterial hypertension
- Edema syndrome
- Gestosis
- Type II diabetes
- Prophylaxis of stone formation in the Uterus
