Drug name: Generic Levaquin (Levofloxacin)
Therapeutic effects: Levofloxacin is a bactericidal broad-spectrum antibiotic, which belongs to a group of chemotherapeutic agents called quinolones. The drug works by blocking DNA-gyrase, inhibits bacterial DNA-synthesis, thus causing profound morphological changes in the cytoplasm, cellular wall and microorganism membranes. The drug is active against a wide-variety of gram-negative and positive microorganisms in vivo and in vitro.
Indications: The preparation is normally prescribed in treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in adults:
- ENT infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections, aggravation of chronic bronchitis, non-amublatory penumonia
- Urogenital infections
- Infections of sexual organs
- Acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Septicemia
