Keflex (cephalexin) is a cephalosporin antibiotic of I generation. It exerts bactericidal effect and violates the synthesis of cell walls of microorganisms. Keflex is quite resistant to penicillinase of Gram-positive bacteria and it is inactivared by beta-lactamases of Gram-negative microorganisms. The drug possesses a broad spectrum of action.

Drug name: Keflex (Cefalexin)
Therapeutic effects:
Keflex is an antibacterial medicine. It inhibits transpeptidase - an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of mucopeptide of bacterial cell wall, has a bactericidal effect. Keflex is active against Gram-positive microorganisms: Staphylococcus spp., Staphylococcus epidermidis (penicillin-resistant strains); Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes), Corynebacterium diphtheriae; Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Actinomyces israelii; Gram-negative microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp. (including Klebsiella pneumoniae), Moraxella catarrhalis (Branhamella), Proteus mirabilis, Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Treponema spp.
Indications:
- infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract (bronchitis, acute pneumonia and exacerbation of chronic pneumonia, empyema and lung abscess)
- infections of urogenital system (pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis, endometritis, gonorrhea, vulvovaginitis, etc.)
- infections of upper respiratory tract (pharyngitis , otitis media, sinusitis, sore throat, etc.)
- infections of skin and soft tissue (furunculosis, abscess, cellulitis, pyoderma, lymphadenitis, lymphangitis, etc.)
- infections of bones and joints (including osteomyelitis)
